March '16 Board Meeting

CALL TO ORDER:
 
President Barry England called a meeting of the Williamsburg Community School Board to order at 7:45 p.m. Members present were: Barry England, Patricia Kensinger, Marion Pheasant, Amy Hileman, Carlee Ranalli, Kristina Bratton, Ben Postles and Julie Woodling.
 
Approval was received for the February minutes for the Committee of the Whole Meeting and Regular Board Meeting.
 
ITEMS APPROVED BY THE BOARD:
 
*Heard a very interesting report from Travis Peterman discussing the student lunch and breakfast participation and events taking place in the cafeteria.
 
*Approved the 2016-17 IU8 Budget in the amount of $5,067,958.57.
 
*Approved the following field trip requests:
 
      - Robyn Bechtel to take FFA members to compete in the Blair Bedford Fulton Area FFA Public Speaking Contest at Central High School on March 31, 2016, at a cost of $55.68.
 
      - April Wheland to take 10 students to attend the IU8 Reading Competition at Forest Hills Middle School on April 6, 2016, at no cost to the district.
 
      - Juliana Nevins to take 15 Spanish Club students to attend a Hispanic Dance Show in Pittsburgh on April 7, 2016, at a cost of $80.
 
      - Sharon DeCamp to take 42 Library Club students to Barnes & Noble in Altoona on April 8, 2016, at a cost of $80.
 
      - Robyn Bechtel to take FFA members to compete in the South Central Regional FFA Public Speaking Contest in Mechanicsburg on April 19, 2016, at a cost of  $467.84.
 
      - Carrie Loose to take 28 sophomore students to BASICS Rotary Career Fair at the Blair County Convention Center on April 27, 2016, at a cost of $80.
 
      - Robyn Bechtel to take 15 students to compete in the Blair County Envirothon Contest in Hollidaysburg on April 28, 2016, at a cost of $206.98.
 
      - Travis Lee to take 45 seventh grade students to ABCD’s Ag Career Day at Kulp Dairy Farm in Martinsburg on May 3 or 4, 2016, at a cost of $271.74.
 
      - Tanya Horton to take 33 third grade students to Penn England Farm on a day TBD in May 2016, at no cost to the district.
 
      - Tanya Horton and Chris Brown to take 38 third grade students to Lincoln Caverns in Huntingdon on May 3, 2016, at no cost to the district.
 
      - Jana Mock and Mike Farrell to take 34 eighth grade students to Teen Power Days at PSU Altoona on May 9, 2016, at a cost of $314.50.
 
      - Travis Lee to take 56 Honor students to an Altoona Curve Baseball Game on May 11, 2016, at a cost of $684.11.
 
      - Dan Crain to take 4 fifth and sixth grade students to Regional Math 24 Challenge Tournament in Johnstown on May 18, 2016, at no cost to the district.
 
*Approved the 2016-17 School Calendar.
 
* Added the following names to the IU8 Substitute Teacher List for the remainder of the 2016 school year.
      Kenneth Fouser – Roaring Spring
      Susan Speck – Roaring Spring
 
*Accepted the resignation of William Hall as Jr. High Football Assistant Coach, with regret, effective immediately.
 
*Approved Lee Saylor as a Volunteer Track & Field Assistant.
 
*Ratified the Acting Superintendent’s decision to appoint Dan McMonagle as Head Varsity Baseball Coach, effective March 7, 2016, on step 1 at a stipend of $2,404.
 
*Ratified the Acting Superintendent’s decision to appoint Austin McMonagle as Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach, effective March 7, 2016, on step 1 at a stipend of $1,803.
 
*Ratified the Acting Superintendent’s decision to appoint Chelsey Rhodes as Varsity Softball Assistant Coach, effective March 7, 2016, on step 1 at a stipend of $1,803.
 
*Ratified the Acting Superintendent’s decision to appoint Mary Reed as Volunteer Softball Assistant, effective March 7, 2016.
 
*Ratified the Acting Superintendent’s decision to appoint Marianne Farnan as Volunteer Softball Assistant, effective March 7, 2016.
 
 
*Approved WCESPA Contract for July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2019.
 
*Approved the following use of facilities request:
 
 
      - Jennifer Reffner to use the elementary cafeteria for the annual Pinewood Derby on March 17, 2016.
 
 
      - Janet Lee’s request on behalf of The Women’s Civic Club to use the practice field on March 26, 2016 for the Community Easter Egg Hunt.
 
 
      - Blair County Commissioners office to use the High School Auditorium for a public meeting on the current standings with the Reassessment Process on May 18, 2016 from 6:00-8:00pm.
 
*Approved Linda Allison’s unpaid leave request for April 6 & 7, 2016.
