How to apply for free and reduced-price school meals in Pennsylvania

You can apply for free and reduced-price school meals in Pennsylvania through two main methods:

  1. Paper Application (Household Meal Benefit Application): Paper applications are sent home with students at the beginning of each school year.  The application is also available HERE.
  2.  Online Application via COMPASS: Apply online at www.compass.state.pa.us. This is a quick and secure option, and if you apply this way, you do not need to submit a paper form.

Important Notes:

  • Eligibility: Eligibility is based on participation in programs like SNAP, TANF, WIC, or Medicaid, or on your household income compared to Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines. Eligibility has been expanded for the 2025-26 school year.
  • Reduced-Price Meals: For the 2025-26 school year, students eligible for reduced-price meals in participating schools will receive them for free.
  • Timing: Applications can be submitted at any point during the school year.
  • Approval: Your children will qualify for meals once your application is processed and approved. Once your application is reviewed, you will receive a letter stating what benefits your student will receive.
  • Contact Information: For help with the application, contact Kalie Zabrosky, kzabrosky@williamsburg.k12.pa.us or 814-832-2125.
