The Williamsburg Community School District was alerted this morning, May 24th 2013, about a potential threat to the elementary school.  Elementary students were immediately evacuated to the high school gymnasium and the high school sheltered-in-place.  Each building’s crisis teams, staffs, and students respond promptly.

An early dismissal schedule was arranged and areas for student pick-up were established.  The district appreciates the cooperation and patience of parents and guardians when picking up students from the school during such incidents.  The safety of students and staff members is the top priority of the school district, and the school strives to reunify students with guardians as quickly and safely as possible.

After a joint investigation between school officials and local and state law enforcement, it was determined that there was no threat to the school district.  Information was given about a potential bomb outside of a building on school grounds, in a wooded area behind the elementary school, but this was not true.  The district must take all threats seriously and respond with appropriate measures.

The school district would like to extend a special thank-you to all law enforcement, fire, and emergency personnel that responded.  In addition, many staff members and students responded by fulfilling extra duties outside of their normal assignments.  The response truly exhibits the professional and caring of all individuals within the school community.

Sincerely,
